Colorado Springs lands state games again
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The State Games of America will return to Colorado Springs in 2009, bringing an anticipated 12,000 athletes to one of the country's top sites for amateur sports.
The games, held every two years, bring top finishers from competitions in 37 states to a central competition to participate in 29 Olympic sports.
The 2005 games were held in Colorado Springs and the 2007 games will be held there as well.
Last year's games drew 9,462 athletes to the city, the home of the U.S. Olympic Committee and the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
The State Games are run by the National Congress of State Games, which "is committed to the organization and promotion of Olympic-style competitions open to athletes of all ages and abilities in every state in the nation." ^------=
