KRAKOW, Poland -- Czech ski jumper Jan Mazoch left a Polish hospital Wednesday and headed to Prague to continue his recovery from injuries sustained in a crash during a World Cup event.

Mazoch, his right eye socket still severely bruised, was moved from a wheelchair onto a stretcher and into an ambulance at Krakow's University Hospital for the journey to Prague's military hospital.

He looked gaunt, but alert, and waved goodbye to nurses and hospital officials as he was put into the vehicle.

The 21-year-old Mazoch sustained brain injuries during a World Cup meet Jan. 20 in Zakopane. He was kept in a medically induced coma for several days to control brain swelling.
