HELSINKI, Finland -- Hannu Manninen of Finland retired Thursday after a career in which he won 45 individual races, more than any other Nordic combined skier.
Manninen won the Nordic World Cup four straight years (2004-07). He began competing at 15 and skied for 12 years. Last season, he did not win an event and missed several races because of illness.
He said he wants to study to become an airplane pilot and spend more time with his family.
