Ze Rui named as new coach of Cape Verde Islands

PRAIA, May 2 - Former international Ze Rui has been named as the Cape Verde Island's new national coach, replacing Alexandre Alhinho who resigned at the end of last year.

Ze Rui will take charge of the island nation's upcoming friendlies against Portugal in Evora on May 27 and against another World Cup finalist Iran in Switzerland three days later, federation officials said on Tuesday.

The new coach played as a professional in Portugal for Vitoria Setubal and Belenenses. He served an assistant coach in the 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign.
