Portugal's Sa Pinto joins Standard Liege
BRUSSELS, July 31 - Portuguese striker Ricardo Sa Pinto signed a one-year contract with Standard Liege on Monday, the club's technical director said.
The 33-year-old, capped 45 times by his country, had been expected to retire from the game at the end of last season.
But he has decided to play one more season and will make his debut in the number 76 jersey for Liege on Friday.
"A special number for a special player," said Michel Preud'homme, Liege technical director.
Sa Pinto began his career in Portugal with Salgueiros before moving to Sporting Lisbon and later to Spain's Real Sociedad. He returned to Lisbon in 2000 where he spent the last six seasons.
Liege, runners-up in the Belgian league last season, lost their opening match of the new term against Lokeren on Sunday. They play Charleroi on Friday.
