Poland's Bak says he was offered bribe for Belgium game
WARSAW, Nov 16 - Polish defender Jacek Bak has told newspapers he was offered a bribe to fix Wednesday's European Championship qualifier with Belgium.
"I received a telephone call proposing that I fix the match," four national newspapers reported Bak as saying after his team's 1-0 win in Brussels. "I do not want to say anything more about this."
Citing unnamed sources, tabloid daily Fakt reported Bak had been offered 10,000 euros to concede a penalty.
Bak, who plays his club football in Qatar, was not available for comment.
Polish team spokesman Kazimierz Oleszek said he had no immediate comment but that the Polish football association would probably make a statement later on Thursday.
After Wednesday's win, Poland stand third in Group A, level on 10 points with Serbia and one point behind leaders Finland.
