LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- Russian swimmer Anatoli Poliakov has been banned for two years for testing positive for steroids.

FINA, the sport's world governing body, said on its Web site Thursday that Poliakov tested positive for the anabolic steroid Boldenone from a doping sample in January.

Poliakov finished fourth in the 200-meter butterfly at last year's European short-course championships in Helsinki.
