Open-Rain forces cancellation of play outside
(updates with cancellation of matches)
MELBOURNE, Jan 19 - Persistent rain showers throughout the day forced the cancellation of play on the outside courts at the Australian Open on Saturday.
The men's third round singles match between 13th seed Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic and Argentine 21st seed Juan Monaco had been moved indoors to Vodafone Arena at the conclusion of third seed Novak Djokovic's match against Sam Querrey.
A decision on the other men's and women's third round singles matches and all of the men's and women's second round doubles matches had yet to be made, though organsiers said they expected them to be rescheduled for Sunday.
The mixed doubles matches scheduled on outside courts for Saturday had been cancelled earlier in the day.
The only matches able to played were on the two main show courts as they had their roofs closed.
The weather forecast for Sunday is for some rain showers in the morning and moderate southerly winds.
