SportsCenter takes a look back at 1999
 
 ESPN will present three SportsCenter specials, reflecting some of the year's greatest moments in sports, beginning Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m. ET with tributes and profiles of the sports legends who died this year.

Highlights include:

SportsCenter Remembers - Legends of Our Time
(Wed., Dec. 15, 8 p.m.)

Jimmy Roberts hosts a retrospective celebration of the lives, careers and contributions of the notable athletes who died in 1999. Some of the athletes include Wilt Chamberlain, Walter Payton, Jim "Catfish" Hunter, Payne Stewart, Joe DiMaggio, Kim Perrot, Pee Wee Reese and Greg Moore.

SportsCenter's Games of the Year (Wed., Dec. 22, 7 p.m.)
Anchors Kenny Mayne and Linda Cohn present a collection of key highlights from 1999's best games. SportsCenter's 1999 best games were selected via an interactive poll of ESPN.com users and the show's producers. Some games include:

  • U.S. women's national team vs. China in the 1999 FIFA women's World Cup's championship game from the Rose Bowl.
  • UConn's 77-74 upset of Duke in the 1999 NCAA men's basketball title game.
  • No. 22 Alabama's 40-39 overtime upset over No. 3 Florida, ending the Gators' 30 home-game winning streak.
  • Dallas Stars capture the Stanley Cup with a three-overtime win over the Buffalo Sabres.
  • The NLCS series between the Mets and Braves, including the two extra-inning battles in Game 5 and Game 6.
  • Jazz-Kings NBA playoff series, including Kings overtime win in Game 3, Stockton's last-minute shot to seal Jazz win in Game 4, and Jazz overtime series-clinching victory in Game 5.

    Best of SportsCenter (Friday, Dec. 24, 8:30 p.m.)
    The millennium's final year marked the end of three outstanding professional careers in basketball, football and hockey. The "Best of SportsCenter," a 90-minute special with hosts Dan Patrick and Stuart Scott, will look back at the careers of Michael Jordan, John Elway and Wayne Gretzky - retracing how their retirements were covered on SportsCenter. Additional highlights include:

  • The 1999 FIFA women's World Cup champions (U.S. women's national team), and other 1999 champions - the Yankees, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Broncos and the Dallas Stars.
  • Tiger Woods record-setting wins and purse on the 1999 PGA Tour.
  • Annual "NB" winners. Nick Bakay picks some of the year's outrageous personalities and incidents in sports.
  • Pictures of the century, a collage of the century's greatest moments in sports.
