If you didn't already know, rappers talk about sports with each other all day. Young Jeezy is a diehard Atlanta fan, so we talk about the Hawks and Josh Smith. They're pretty good this year so he's happy. I probably talk to Nelly the most about what's going on because he's the most competitive and he talks the most, period. He hates to lose like Michael Jordan.
Nelly was a really good baseball player growing up, man. He could have gone to the league but he chose a different path. He's a diehard St. Louis fan and it's kind of crazy, actually. We bet on games sometimes and last year we bet a pretty large sum of money on the Hornets. Nelly didn't think they'd make it past the first round and I did, so we put money on it. When I beat him he had to pay me $19,000 dollars. That's the most I've ever bet on sports. I try not to get too crazy or bet anything too major that I would really miss. I had a bet with Shawty Lo on the Eagles and the Giants and I lost, so I owe him something but I won't say what.
LIL WAYNE ON THE NBA
The NBA is really getting going now and I want to say that I love the Allen Iverson trade. A lot of people think he's not a good team player but the guy is human and he knows what he's doing and he really wants to win more than anything. He reminds me of Kevin Garnett who sacrificed a lot when he was in Minnesota and then got to go to Boston and play with other guys who were great. They came together and they won, and I'm telling you now to get ready for Iverson and the Pistons.
I also just love Ron Artest with the Rockets. He gives them an aggressive edge, but after what happened last week against the Suns I think that pretty much goes without saying. The Rockets never would have gotten into it like that without him. Tracy McGrady? Come on. This is the same guy who said he wasn't coming to New Orleans if the All-Star game was there. That guy? Come on. So then when the All-Star game came around who all of a sudden gets an injury? Tracy McGrady. Yeah. And the best part about that fight was that Artest did not even move. He did not get involved. I felt bad when Steve Nash got knocked to the floor, that poor little guy. Rafer Alston's from the playground, so that's gonna happen. Shout out to him because that's my homie.
Rafer and I have an interesting history. There was one game back when I had courtside seats with the Hornets when I was talking trash to him and he made an inappropriate gesture toward me after he made a shot. I'd been heckling him the whole game, talking trash and I was very offended by that gesture so I kept talking. And then Tracy McGrady came over near me and bent over to make it look like he was catching his breath, but he had really come over to talk to me about it. Chris Paul came and did the same thing. He was like "Whatever you're doing it's working 'cause you're getting in his head." He stopped shooting after that. We had a good talk after the game and we worked things out. He's a good guy, so shout out to him.
Back when I had those courtside seats I would hear everything those guys ever said, and KG was by far the best trash talker. That dude was creative. Even though he was on a terrible team in Minnesota all those years, he came in and was talking every night, intimidating people. He could get away with it because even though his team would usually lose, everyone knew KG's game was at a different level. Most people would back down because it was KG. But then once in a while you'd have a guy who'd go back at him. I remember one game he got into it with Kareem Rush and he didn't back down.
I also want to shout out to the Cavaliers. My boy LeBron James is amazing, and the team's been doing their thing so far. Also, when you watch the Cavaliers games please be sure not to get up during the commercials 'cause you will see me on the Nike LeBron commercial. Yes. It's kind of funny because he does that little thing where he throws the dust up and it gets on me and my new shoes so I'm upset about it. You can't miss it because it comes on every day—and about twenty times during each Cavs game.
LIL WAYNE ON HIS NEIGHBOR, DWYANE WADE
I'm gonna try to get to some Heat games soon. Dwyane Wade actually lives in my building. We have this building where you are the only person living on a given floor, so when the elevator opens it's just your place. People usually just leave their doors wide open like I do and treat the elevator like their real front door because you're not supposed to ever stop on a floor that isn't yours. But one day I got on there and the floor stopped at eight and the door opened and there was Dwyane Wade standing there. I hollered at him and told him he had a nice place. We live on the beach, but the funny thing is some guys in his entourage have a place in another building and my entourage lives directly across from them.So my entourage and his entourage are always out playing basketball together. D-Wade's a cool guy, but I've never really been invited to his games. I guess I need tickets. I guess we could play video games or something together when we're both home, but I don't know if he plays and I'm not so good. I like to play golf and soccer video games, anyway.
I want to learn how to really play golf. I've only been to a driving range once, but I was too young to be interested. I know the game well and I always wonder how good I'd be if I really worked at it. It's a very strategic game and I'm kind of OK at things like that. I will do it one day, but of course I've got to get it right.
LIL WAYNE ON COLLEGE FOOTBALL
I hate the BCS and it's really getting ridiculous this year. They need to have some kind of a playoff or a tournament or something 'cause it's not fair. I don't get it because it seems like everyone wants to go to a playoff format, yet here we are every year wondering what the computers are going to say. If a team plays in a weak conference that's not their fault. And it seems like every year a couple of teams that are really good that have a legitimate right to play for the championship get left out. I love what Joe Paterno has done with Penn State this year, and I think that if there was a different system than the BCS that they would have a great shot at the title this year. You cannot explain to me why this happens in any way that will make me understand. March Madness is the most exciting time for sports fans, period. If they had a mini-tournament, like an eight-team playoff or something, you know how amazing that would be. Hopefully it happens soon. But as for this season I still think Florida is going to end up winning it all and Tim Tebow is going to win the Heisman trophy for the second year in a row.
LIL WAYNE ON MANNY
I'm anxious to see where Manny Ramirez ends up. I was thinking maybe Oakland because they were making the argument that they were gonna try to get their team right and that they had the money to spend. But since they went out and got Matt Holliday, it seems like Man-Ram will end up somewhere else now because they really need to focus on pitching. I think the Dodgers are gonna come back with a bigger offer. They just threw the first offer out there as a jumping off point, but they're gonna get serious about it. The excitement in LA was something, and they're not just gonna let him walk. They're not done—it was too quick. There are only a few teams that can afford to pay the man, and I would be heartbroken if he ends up in pinstripes. Manny as a Yankee would upset a whole lot of people, so I hope it doesn't come to that.
LIL WAYNE ON THE NFL
Shout out to Chris Johnson, LenDale White, Kerry Collins and the rest of the Titans for making it to 10-0. You guys are amazing. I'm gonna make a bold prediction right here and say I think they're gonna lose to Detroit on Thanksgiving because even though they're awful this year, Detroit usually always wins on Thanksgiving. If they don't lose that game, I think they'll lose their last game against the Colts. They're gonna be at that point where they start thinking about the post-season and they start resting guys who they don't want to get hurt, that type of thing. Going undefeated is just too remarkable a thing to pull off, so I expect them to lose at least once before the playoffs. I was invited to a Titans game and I really, really want to go to one of those before the season ends. That's probably number one on my list before the end of the year, is to go to a Titans game.
I've totally, totally ignored Joe Flacco on the blog, and for that I apologize. He's been successful with a non-offensive team, and that's just tremendous. The Ravens are all about defense, and he just goes out there and does his thing and he's never in the conversation. I still like Aaron Rodgers best out of all the young quarterbacks, but I wanted to shout out to Joe Flacco for getting the job done this year under the radar. Nobody knows who you are but I'm quite fond of you, Mr. Flacco. Also, shout out to Mwelde Moore. I like what he's doing and the fact that he comes from Tulane University. Trust me, that school is not known for any kind of sports, so for him to be doing what he's doing is a good thing.
