Nicole Tully (second from left) edges past the rest of the field to win the 5K at the 2015 USATF National Championships.

If getting the right song in your head can take your race to new levels, Nicole Tully is living proof. The 28-year-old marketing professional and relative newbie to the elite running scene said singing to herself while she runs keeps her calm and focused.

During the 5K at this summer's USATF National Championships it was Bea Miller's "Fire N Gold" on replay in her head as she went and took the gold -- as an underdog in the field. It was also only the second time she'd ever raced a 5K on a track.

"I basically just sang it over and over in my head as each lap went by," she said. "It was like a mini pep talk throughout!" Tully went on to place 14th in that event at her first world championships, and hopes to make the Olympic team next year. In the meantime, she shared her full prerace playlist -- gold medal guaranteed.
