Snowboarder Chloe Kim Goes Big With New Look

X Games gold medalist snowboarder Chloe Kim talks about why she dyed her hair pink.

Chloe Kim said she wanted to go bigger, and she wasn't talking about her gravity-defying tricks on her snowboard.

The 15-year-old was instead referring to her newly highlighted hair that has tones of pink and purple. "Cotton candy is the color that best describes it," says Kim, the 2015 X Games Aspen Snowboard SuperPipe Gold Medalist. "I love it."

In case you're wondering if this was an act of defiance from a rebellious teenager, think again. Kim had to get permission from her parents before she could get her new do. "My mom wouldn't let me dye my hair for the longest time," Kim explains.

Then Kim cut a deal with her mom: If she made the podium at the 2014 U.S. Burton Open, she could finally get highlights. "I got third that year, and I was like, 'Let's go the salon,'" Kim says.

The first stop to the hairdresser resulted in auburn highlights at the tips of Kim's long locks, however she was just getting started. "I wanted to go little more extreme, so I went to another salon and she redid it and I loved it so much," says Kim. "Then the second time we dyed it a little higher up...It actually looked really cool."

The reality is that Kim is already hard to miss when she mounts aerial assaults on half pipes, but now she'll be even easier to spot. Just look for the spinning cotton candy.
