Sky high in the Windy City

Sky star Elena Delle Donne and some friends took a boat cruise this week to explore Chicago from the water.

My teammates and I are off to a great start to the season. We have a good group of girls that get along on and off the court, which makes playing together really fun. It has definitely been a different feel for me this season compared to my rookie year. As one of the captains, I’ve had to adjust into more of a leadership role, which has been both challenging and exciting.

This weekend we have two big games at home. First we play the Atlanta Dream on Saturday and then we face the Lynx on Monday. I’m especially excited for Monday’s game against the Lynx, because we’ll be kicking off our Hoops for Troops events. In commemoration of all our armed forces, the Sky will be hosting soldiers, veterans and families at the game.

With the WNBA's Summer Hoops, the Sky logo is plenty visible around Chicago.

The game will also be nationally televised on ESPN2. This is a great platform for my teammates and me to defend our home court and make a statement. We want a WNBA championship and we won’t stop until we get one.

My dad is coming for the weekend to watch me play. It’s always great to be able to look up in the crowd during games and see him. In between games I’m looking forward to spending some time with my dad and of course my dog, Wrigley.

Since my Memorial Day weekend is jam packed with practices, games and film sessions, I took advantage of a day off earlier in the week to enjoy the city. My friends and I went on the Mystic Blue boat cruise at Navy Pier. After the boat tour I can say that I am absolutely in love with this city! There is nothing better than relaxing with friends and watching the sunset on the Chicago skyline. Summertime in Chicago definitely makes up for the long, cold winters. The weather is amazing right now!

I’m excited that the weather has finally warmed up, but I’m even more excited about Summer Hoops. Our Sky street team has been chalking WNBA logos on bike paths, parking lots and street corners around Chicago. It’s been really fun to see our fans post photos on Twitter and Instagram with logowoman and Sky messages all around the city. Our fans are the best! #SkyHigh
