Last hurrah for Chris Evert

Chris Evert won 18 Grand Slam singles titles during her career: seven at the French Open, six at the US Open, three at Wimbledon and two at the Australian Open.

On this day in 1989, Chris Evert won her 101st and final singles match at the US Open, beating Monica Seles 6-0, 6-2 in the fourth round. Evert would fall to Zina Garrison, 7-6 (1), 6-2, in the quarterfinal, ending one of the best US Open careers in history. Evert, who made 19 appearances in America’s Grand Slam, finished her career with a 101-12 record. She won the tournament six times, made the final nine times, and made the semifinals a record 16 straight times. Her winning percentage of .894 remains an Open record.
