The best culture podcasts hosted (mostly) by women

Podcasts are typically engaging conversations that keep you both in the know and entertained.

It seems like everyone is listening to podcasts these days. In fact, 2016 survey data from Edison Research revealed that 21 percent of Americans have listened to a podcast within the past month.

However, with 250,000 or more unique podcasts floating around, it's hard to figure which ones would be your cup of tea. But ... never fear, we put together an entirely subjective list of some great podcasts that you, dear reader, may enjoy.

We'll preface this by noting that espnW has some fantastic podcasts that focus mostly on sports, including That's What She Said and The Trifecta. But this list features some nonsports options that are at the top of their games.

Bad with Money with Gaby Dunn

YouTube personality and comedian Gaby Dunn launched a podcast to talk about money issues. In her first season, Dunn scored some great guests to discuss their piggy banks, including author Roxane Gay and director Lexi Alexander. We highly recommend it for young people trying to get their financial life in order.

Another Round (Buzzfeed)

Hosted by Tracy Clayton and Heben Nigatu, "Another Round" is a Buzzfeed-branded podcast that captures the essence of black womanhood and friendship. Clayton and Nigatu discuss politics and pop culture and laugh a lot. Oh, and they drink a few adult beverages while they do it. With guests ranging from "Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda to "Selma" director Ava DuVernay to "Get Out" director Jordan Peele, the conversations are engaging and explore various topics each week.

EW's BINGE (Entertainment Weekly)

So, sometimes our writers (who shall remain nameless) binge-watch TV and just want to talk about it with someone. This is that podcast. They've done two seasons thus far, the first focusing on the "Harry Potter" films and the second on the TV series "Friday Night Lights." In the first season each episode dissects one of the Potter films, and in the second, each episode digs into a season of "Friday Night Lights." Both seasons also features guests from the respective series.

My Favorite Murder with Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark

So, this podcast is not for everyone. The name is, admittedly, a little crass, but if you are still interested, these two women discuss true crime. They highlight the peculiar and the creepy. If you have a weird story about your hometown that is almost too crazy to believe, they want to hear it.

Harry Potter and the Sacred Text

Vanessa Zoltan and Casper ter Kuile delve deep into the "Harry Potter" books, reading one chapter per week as if it was a sacred text. The podcast is crowdfunded by fans and is just all in all a good time. Pro-tip: Review the chapters before listening.
