Maine infielder Alyssa Derrick may be better at football than she is at softball
Forget the infield. Let her play quarterback.
Alyssa Derrick, the third baseman for the University of Maine softball team, followed up her America East Rookie of the Year campaign by hitting .308 with 15 home runs for the Black Bears in 2017. But if she ever gets tired of the diamond, she may have a secondary career on the football field.

Given that last year's starting quarterback Dan Collins, who maxed out last season with a 60-yard completion, graduated, the Black Bears do have a bit of a positional battle going on heading into the season. They have four quarterbacks on the roster, including Max Staver, who reportedly threw a 60-yard dart at spring practice in April.
Looks like Derrick is throwing her name into consideration.
