As if Serena Williams' year couldn't get better, Nike will be naming a building after her
Serena Williams has had a pretty monumental year. From giving birth to her first child to getting married to winning Grand Slam title No. 23 (while pregnant, nonetheless), 2017 has to be one for the books for the tennis superstar.
However, with just a few weeks left to go in the year, it turns out 2017 had one more surprise for her. Nike announced this week it would be naming a brand-new building on its Portland campus in her honor.
Duke men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski and runner Sebastian Coe will also be getting buildings named after them but rest assured, the Serena Williams building will be the largest one in the group. Just check out the design of this thing below.
What a year it has been. First a grand slam win followed by a awesome baby... than the most magical wedding. What next? How about a building!!... Nike announced yesterday that one of its new world headquarters buildings will be named after me. It will be the biggest on campus and is scheduled to open in 2019. I am honored and grateful! #TeamNike @nike
Some athletes get a sneaker, Serena Williams gets an entire building. Sounds about right.
