Reese Witherspoon's production company is working on a Martina Navratilova documentary
A feature-length documentary is in the works on icon Martina Navratilova. The film will explore Navratilova's impact through the eyes of co-producer Glenn Greenwald, who grew up idolizing the tennis legend, according to Variety. In fact, actress Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine production company is developing the documentary about the 18-time Grand Slam champion.
"The issues raised by Martina's legacy resonate now more than ever, which is why it's so important to tell her story to new generations of engaged young people who may not be aware of the vital role she played in shaping expectations around female identity and LGBT equality," Charlotte Koh, head of digital media and programming for Hello Sunshine, told Variety.
Witherspoon seemed equally enthusiastic about the project as she took to Twitter:
.@Martina has been an incredible trailblazer for women, female athletes, the LGBTQ+ community & more. So excited @hellosunshine & @ggreenwald will be developing a documentary film that'll examine so many of these timely issues! https://t.co/bZ3Y3SGXaG- Reese Witherspoon (@RWitherspoon) May 15, 2018
It's one thing to get to meet your childhood hero; it's another thing entirely to make a film about why she's so important and share her greatness with the world! Thanks, @RWitherspoon & @hellosunshine, for supporting this project; so excited to work with you!- Glenn Greenwald (@ggreenwald) May 15, 2018
I CANNOT WAIT for this movie.
