Monica Abbott bridges softball worlds with a selfie

Ace Monica Abbott and Team USA begin their quest to clinch a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on Thursday when they open the WBSC World Championship against Mexico in Chiba, Japan.

Softball will be included on the Olympic program for the first time since 2008, so it goes without saying that Team USA wants to lock up a spot ASAP. After a week of training in Japan, the U.S. closed its preparation with a doubleheader sweep of the Toyota Red Terriers.

And that put Abbott, who led Toyota to the Japan Women's Softball League title in 2016, in a bit of an awkward, world-colliding spot.

So Abbott did what Abbott does best -- she delivered a left-handed strike.

When your worlds collide you #selfie . #toyota #teamusa #softball
