Seattle, D.C. mayors make fun bet riding on WNBA Finals
Depending on where you live, sports gambling might be legal. (You can watch Episode 1 of "Always Late with Katie Nolan" on ESPN+ for some more details, or use this incredibly helpful tracker.)
But if you're not betting money, you can still make a friendly wager on a game or series. Just like the mayors of Seattle and Washington are doing with the WNBA Finals.
Seattle mayor Jenny Durkan and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser decided to make a fun bet to see which city will reign atop the WNBA world.
Seattle or DC? #ObviouslyDC@MayorJenny, we've dealt with our fair share of storms in DC this summer and we're prepared to handle one more!- Mayor Muriel Bowser (@MayorBowser) September 6, 2018
Looking forward to cheering on the @WashMystics as they bring another championship and gift basket to the District.#TogetherDC pic.twitter.com/SFw1k1BpkX
The mayor of the losing city will send the winning city's mayor a gift basket of local products. It will either include Seattle coffee and ginger beer or D.C. flowers and vodka.
And for as friendly a bet as this is, the mayors aren't shying away from playful trash talk, either.
"The other Washington," Durkan said in a release, "won't be able to handle current legend Sue Bird and legends in the making like Jewell Loyd, MVP Breanna Stewart and an entire team of can-do, get it done players."
Added Bowser: "We've dealt with our fair share of storms in D.C. this summer, and we're prepared to handle one more."
Can the series just start already?
