What athletes eat: Soccer player Samantha Johnson's avocado and blue cheese chopped salad
Former USC star Samantha Johnson is back for her fifth season with the NWSL's Chicago Red Stars, and this year, it's all about the little things. "My goal this season is to elevate my game as a center back and focus on details every single day to hopefully achieve marginal gains," she told us recently.
One of those details? Fine-tuning her post-workout meal to include a lot more veggies. One of her favorite ways to do that is with a salad recipe she got from her dad, Philip Johnson. She lives with him during the offseason to save on rent, and the two are quite close, right down to the salads they like. She shared the recipe:

What I'm eating: "PMJ Classic Chopped Salad"
Why I'm eating it: I love to eat salad because it's so light and fresh. Sometimes after a workout you would think I'd be starving, but I always crave my dad's salads -- especially when I'm home in the offseason. It's seriously so refreshing.
Whose recipe: PMJ, aka my dad, Philip Johnson
1 chopped head of artisan lettuce (about 4 ounces)
3 Roma tomatoes
1/2 medium red onion
1 bunch fresh chopped cilantro (maybe 2 ounces)
1/2 medium avocado, cubed
2 ounces crumbled blue cheese
ginger vinaigrette dressing
Chop lettuce, tomatoes, onion and cilantro. Toss veggies with vinaigrette and top with avocado and blue cheese.
