A'ja Wilson headlines WBCA team

This part of the announcement came as no surprise: A'ja Wilson, the No. 1 prospect in the espnW HoopGurlz Top 100 for the 2014 class, was named the Women's Basketball Coaches Association player of the year on Wednesday.

This part was unexpected: Because of declining sponsorship revenue, the WBCA High School All-America Game will not be played this year. The game had traditionally been part of Final Four weekend.

"The decision to suspend the game, although difficult, was financially responsible and necessary," WBCA CEO Beth Bass said in a release on WBCA.org. "We will explore the feasibility of reinstating the game in future years if new sponsorship revenues are made available."

Wilson, a 6-foot-4 forward at Heathwood Hall (Columbia, S.C.), headlines the 2014 WBCA High School All-America team. She is the lone undeclared prospect selected to the team and is expected to choose between Connecticut, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina after the season.
