ICYMI: The King and his ring

LeBron James didn't want to deprive his social media followers of seeing his latest championship ring after the Heat began the season with a win over the Bulls.

Caught up on sleep after a sports-filled weekend? Have no fear, we've got you covered. Here's everything you missed last night.

It's LeBron's world

The NBA returned last night, instantly reminding all of us just how much we missed Charles Barkley, the phrase "Birdman, Birdman" and Craig Sager's suits. Just me? After a celebratory ring ceremony, the two-time defending-champion Miami Heat hosted the Chicago Bulls in the night's most buzzed-about matchup. Bulls superstar Derrick Rose made his long-awaited return from a knee injury after a 17-month absence. It was probably not the comeback he was hoping for -- he and all of his teammates looked as if they had taken a break from basketball for quite some time. Despite finally showing some signs of life in the fourth quarter, the Bulls fell, 107-95, in a mostly one-sided game.

Because winning in a dominating fashion against a rival team wasn't enough, LeBron James spent his postgame downtime showing off his newly gifted hardware to his social media followers. Warning: Looking at the image below will either blind you or make you immediately start singing Rihanna's "Diamonds." So shine bright, tonightttttttt ... I'll stop here.

Pizza makes anything bearable

The Boston Red Sox had their final workout of the season on Tuesday night ahead of tonight's World Series Game 6. The St. Louis Cardinals ... sat on a broken plane at the airport for hours. Manager Mike Matheny was even forced to do his required news conference on the phone while sitting on the runway.

The delayed team found ways to entertain themselves and documented their adventures on Twitter, even prompting a #cardsplaneproblems hashtag. Third baseman David Freese clearly won the delayed-plane MVP award after ordering pizza that was delivered to the runway from local chain Imo's.

The plane finally took off from St. Louis shortly after 9 p.m. ET, more than seven hours after its scheduled departure time. The team landed in Boston around 11. But not before a fan won the Internet with this tweet.

Nine years? That's impressive

America's favorite gymnast-turned-Internet sensation McKayla Maroney became one of the most important memes of our time with her famed "not impressed" face after winning the silver medal on the vault at the 2012 London Olympics. Turns out the facial expression has taken years of practice to perfect -- nine to be exact -- as she hilariously displayed on her Vine account.

Best musical duo

In honor of Halloween on Thursday, I will be posting some of my favorite athlete costumes all week. Today's very worthy honorees are U.S. soccer stars Alex Morgan and Sydney Leroux. The dynamic social media duo dressed as Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke, no blurred lines about it. The two posted pictures and a video to their accounts. Because they can't stop. And they won't stop.
