U.S. gets silver; Brazil wins title

TOKYO -- The United States beat the Dominican Republic in four sets on Sunday to win the silver medal at the volleyball World Grand Champions Cup.

Lauren Paolini had 19 points in the Americans' 25-14, 25-16, 21-25, 25-18 victory. Kelly Murphy and Jordan Larson-Burbach added 16 apiece.

"We have a lot to be proud of," U.S. coach Karch Kiraly said. "We played against the world's best in 2013 and got four wins out of five. All 14 of our athletes here made a real contribution to this team effort."

Olympic champion Brazil beat host Japan 29-27, 25-14, 25-18 for the title. Fernanda Rodrigues led the way with 16 points.

"We made some mistakes in the first set," Brazil captain Fabiana Claudino said. "But we picked up in the second and third sets and started blocking, defending and serving well."

Brazil became the first team to win the title twice following its 2005 triumph. It finished the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record for 15 points.

Japan finished third to claim the bronze medal.
