Point guard Destanni Henderson commits to South Carolina

Destanni Henderson, a 5-foot-8 junior point guard at Fort Myers (Florida) and the No. 10 prospect in the espnW HoopGurlz Super 60 for the 2018 class, has committed to South Carolina.

Henderson, who is averaging 18.4 points, 3.5 assists and 5.5 steals this season, chose the Gamecocks over Notre Dame, Tennessee, Ohio State, NC State and Florida State.

"Coach Dawn Staley had influence in my decision to [choose] South Carolina," Henderson said. "She was a great player and coach and someone that will be a mentor for me in my career."

Staley and South Carolina get a dynamic backcourt prospect in Henderson. She is superb off the dribble and her midrange game is top-notch. Henderson won a bronze medal with Team USA over the summer at the FIBA U17 world championships. She started all seven games and averaged 7.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and a team-high 5.0 assists.

South Carolina landed four 2017 prospects during the early signing period. Henderson is the first commitment for South Carolina in 2018.

Henderson is the fourth 2018 top-10 prospect to commit, joining No. 7 Charli Collier (UConn), No. 8 Jenna Brown (Notre Dame) and No. 9 Sedona Prince (Texas).
