Stanford recruit Lexie Hull leads Central Valley to title at GEICO High School Basketball Nationals
Washington state champion Central Valley (Spokane Valley) can add a national championship to its 2018 campaign.
Stanford signee Lexie Hull had 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead Central Valley to a 66-61 victory over Hamilton Heights Christian (Chattanooga, Tennessee) in the championship game of the GEICO High School Basketball Nationals Saturday at Christ the King High School in Middle Village, New York.
Hamilton Heights Christian (25-3) was the No. 1 team in the espnW 25 Power Rankings. Central Valley (29-0) was ranked 20th. The final rankings for the 2017-18 season will be released Tuesday.
Hamilton Heights cut the lead to two twice in the final 65 seconds. Treasure Hunt hit a 3-pointer with 1:05 to play to cut the lead to 59-57. Trailing by six with 22 seconds to go, Jazmine Massengill hit two free throws, stole the inbounds pass and made a layup to make it 63-61.
But Hull, who went 11-of-11 from the free throw line, including 6-for-6 in the fourth quarter, helped Central Valley hold on with a three-point play.
Massengill, a McDonald's All American who has signed with Tennessee, scored 32 points for Hamilton Heights.
Junior Camryn Skaife had 14 points for Central Valley, and Lacie Hull, headed to Stanford with her twin sister, had nine points and eight rebounds.
"It's unreal; it's unlike anything that we've ever done before," Lexie Hull said.
