NC State lands commitment from elite prospect Jakia Brown-Turner
Jakia Brown-Turner, the No. 15 prospect in the espnW HoopGurlz Super 60, has given a verbal commitment to NC State.
Brown-Turner, a 6-foot wing at Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Maryland), had also been considering Maryland and West Virginia.
"I have the chance to challenge for playing time as a freshman and make an impact," she said. "Coach Wes Moore is great. I've developed a great relationship with him.
"The style of play was important to me, and NC State plays up-tempo, which is what I wanted."
As a junior, Brown-Turner helped lead Bishop McNamara to a 21-7 record. She is a left-handed versatile wing with range beyond the arc. Her versatility will make her a difficult matchup at the next level. She was named first-team All-Met by the Washington Post.
NC State, which went 26-9 and fell to Mississippi State in the Sweet 16 in 2017-18, has two other commitments in the 2019 class, speedy point guard Kendal Moore and post prospect Camille Hobby.
The early signing period for women's basketball is Nov. 14-21.
