No. 1 prospect Haley Jones postpones college announcement until Nov. 28
No. 1 prospect Haley Jones has postponed the announcement of her college decision until Nov. 28 due to the ongoing wildfires in Northern California that have forced closures at her school.
Jones is a senior wing at Archbishop Mitty in San Jose, California. The high school canceled school on Friday because of poor air quality and anticipated further cancellations next week prior to Thanksgiving break. Mitty's Thursday night basketball game against Menlo-Atherton also was canceled.
Jones' signing ceremony originally was scheduled for next Monday.
"My signing day is not the most important thing right now," Jones said in a phone interview. "It is the Northern California wildfires. That's what we should be focused on, with all of the displaced people who have lost their homes. My signing can be postponed a few days."
Although the NCAA early signing period ends Nov. 21, institutions have an additional 14 days to send the commitment to the NCAA. Jones plans to sign and notarize her national letter of intent during the early period and send it to her future school after her announcement.
Jones is deciding between Oregon, Connecticut, South Carolina, Stanford and Notre Dame.
