Stanford recruit Haley Jones named Morgan Wootten Player of the Year
Stanford basketball recruit Haley Jones was named the Morgan Wootten Player of the Year on Tuesday.
Jones, a senior at Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, California) and the No. 1 prospect in the espnW HoopGurlz Top 100, averaged 26.1 points and 12.1 rebounds per game this season and led her team to a 25-3 record. She also was named the Naismith Player of the Year and is the two-time Gatorade California Player of the Year.
Over the summer, she won a gold medal with USA Basketball at the FIBA U17 World Cup.
Previous winners of the Morgan Wootten award include Christyn Williams (2018), Katie Lou Samuelson (2015), Breanna Stewart (2012) and Maya Moore (2007).
Jones will play alongside future Cardinal teammates Fran Belibi and Ashten Prechtel on the West team at the McDonald's All American Games on Wednesday (5 p.m. ET, ESPN2) in Atlanta. She will be playing against her high school coach, Sue Phillips, who will lead the East squad.
On Monday, Jones was responsible for the pass on an alley-oop that helped Belibi win the dunk contest at the Powerade JamFest.
"I get to throw her lobs on the fast break," said Jones, a 6-foot-2 wing. "What else could I look forward to?"
