2015 Sports 4 Life Grant Winners Show How Playing Changes Everything
Keeping girls interested in sports is the mission behind Sports 4 Life, a national effort aimed at providing athletic opportunities to African-American and Hispanic girls. This year, the Women's Sports Foundation and espnW have given the spotlight to 22 grant winners dedicated to keeping girls in the game.
The foundation has awarded $110,000 to the organizations, who give more than 6,800 middle- and high-school girls across the nation the chance to dance, play basketball, swing golf clubs, try martial arts and so much more, all in the name of making sports -- and the leadership and confidence-building opportunities that come from playing them -- more accessible.
"We know not everyone is going to grow up to be a professional athlete," Former New York Liberty player and Sports 4 Life ambassador Kym Hampton says, "but the lessons that you learn in sports and athletics, you can carry with you throughout your life."
