FlyQuest have signed former Team Liquid mid laner Eugene "Pobelter" Park as its starting mid laner for the 2019 season, sources close to the team and player told ESPN.
Pobelter will replace former FlyQuest mid laner Jang "Keane" Lae-young as the team looks to rebuild around jungler Lucas "Santorin" Larsen and AD carry Jason "WildTurtle" Tran, sources said. As of Thursday, Santorin, WildTurtle and Pobelter are the only three starting players contracted to FlyQuest.
On Monday, Pobelter's contract expired with Team Liquid, where he competed through 2018 and won two North American League of Legends Championship Series titles in April and September. Liquid facilitated a transfer with Cloud9 on Monday for mid laner Nicolaj "Jensen" Jensen.
With Pobelter removed from the free agency market, teams like Echo Fox, Clutch Gaming and OpTic Gaming are left with few proven, domestic options for the mid lane.
On Wednesday, Cloud9 neared a buyout agreement with Splyce for Yasin "Nisqy" Dinçer, as first reported by VPEsports and confirmed by ESPN. On Thursday, Counter Logic Gaming received a commitment from former OpTic mid laner Tristan "PowerofEvil" Schrage, as reported by ESPN.
Throughout the 2018 season, FlyQuest took eighth and then fifth-sixth in the North American League Championship Series spring and summer splits. The team promoted Keane over Song "Fly" Yong-jun, who moved back home to South Korea and joined Gen.G.
