The fourth annual Winter X Games, the signature winter alternative sports competition, will premiere on ESPN, Friday, Feb. 4 from 9-11 p.m. ET, the start of 18 hours of Winter X Games coverage on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC, Feb. 4-8. The four-day event, which will feature more than 250 of the world's best athletes competing in six sports, will take place for the first time at Mount Snow Resort in Mt. Snow, Vt., Feb. 3-6.

In all, ESPN will feature 12.5 hours of coverage, while ABC will feature 2.5 hours and ESPN2 three. Each night during the X Games, ESPN will present an hour-long highlight program at midnight ET/9 p.m. PT (note: the highlight telecast at midnight on Feb. 7 will be on ESPN2). ESPN International will distribute the Games worldwide via networks and syndication.

Athletes from around the world will compete in 16 events from six sports categories. Snowboarding, the cornerstone of the Winter X Games with eight events, will be joined by Snow Mountain Biking (two events), Snowmobile Snocross (one event), Skiing (three events), Skiboarding (one event) and the new UltraCross (one event).

The 2000 Winter X Games
This will be the ninth X Games in less than five years (five summer, four winter).
This event will mark the first Winter X Games taking place on the East Coast. Previous events were held in Crested Butte, Colo. and Big Bear Lake, Calif.
ESPN has garnered five Emmy Awards for X Games coverage in four years of eligibility, including at least one each year.
The new event of UltraCross will team the world's best skiers with the world's best snowboarders in a relay-style competition.
Online Elements: The X Games will continue to showcase the convergence of ESPN's television and online networks. Plans will include chat sessions, live streaming video, uploading of viewer photos and much more.
