Fantasy baseball rankings summit

Fans often talk about how fantasy writers have the greatest job in the world, because all they do is sit around and look up stats and spout off their opinions. Most of the time, we take issue with that and emphasize how much hard work goes into everything.

Not this time.

On Wednesday, Jan. 19, and Thursday, Jan. 20, the ESPN Fantasy team held its annual fantasy baseball rankings summit. For two days, we gathered to debate the merits and warts of hundreds of players, lob insults at each other and generally have a good ol' time. At the end of it, we come out of the room with the framework of our rankings and projections.

This year, for the first time, we offered you, the fan, a glimpse into our process. In the application below, you had the opportunity to make your voice heard, get a taste of the debates going on in the room and get a sneak preview of some of the final rankings.

Note: All rankings are based on standard 5x5 scoring (AVG, HR, RBI, Runs, SB for hitters; Wins, Saves, Strikeouts, ERA and WHIP for pitchers), and all players are ranked based on where they are eligible on draft day in 2011. For instance, Kevin Youkilis is eligible only at first base in ESPN leagues and therefore is not ranked at third base. He will gain 3B eligibility after playing 10 games there this season.
