The dog days of summer have passed. Soon, Labor Day will too and mark the unofficial end to the sunny season. From there, the race to the Fall Classic kicks into high gear. Before we get to all that, the calendar must flip from August to September. With that comes expanded rosters, and yes, even more prospects.
As the chances to add talent from outside become less frequent, teams often look to the farm for late-season impact. Last year Joc Pederson, Maikel Franco and Brandon Finnegan were among the top players added. The Royals used Finnegan as a weapon all the way through the World Series.
This year has been a banner season for the next generation. More than 30 of Keith Law's top 100 prospects have been called up, with a large number of them playing key roles with their clubs. There also were a handful of players beyond the top 100 who have made their presence felt at the top level.
