I freely admit I didn't expect this much power so soon from Pirates first baseman Josh Bell. His three-run homer against Washington tonight as his eighth already, and he's slugging .500. Last season, Bell slugged .406 in a similar number of at-bats, and he didn't hit for much power in the minors. The Pirates sure need Bell to produce, and it looks like he should get to at least 20 homers; along with his solid walk rate, his batting average should improve as well.
