Start 'Em, Sit 'Em

The recent increase in playing time for Jeff Green has come at a cost to Damien Wilkins, who has seen fewer minutes and weaker stat lines since scoring 20-plus points in two of his first three games. … New coach Jim O'Brien has the Pacers attempting more 3s; Danny Granger, Mike Dunleavy and Jamaal Tinsley have combined for 2.6 more combined 3-pointers per game. But the Celtics have been superb defensively this season, so don't be surprised to see the trio's field goal percentage struggle. … Rudy Gay is averaging 24.6 points in his past three games, but a rather one-dimensional swingman isn't the best play against a tough Rockets defense. Yao Ming may spell foul trouble for Darko Milicic as well. … Andre Miller is off to his usual slow start, and facing Devin Harris, who is likely to play Tuesday and is a great defender, will not help matters. … Zach Randolph is expected to return on Tuesday, so David Lee, who had 14 points and 14 rebounds filling in for Randolph, once again loses most of his value. … LaMarcus Aldridge has been dominant at times but has struggled with his fouls. Against the Pistons he should have a superb game because neither Antonio McDyess nor Rasheed Wallace should be expected to get Aldridge in foul trouble.

Waiver-Wire Pickups

Earl Watson, who started the previous six games, was benched as Luke Ridnour started on Sunday. Ridnour played 30 minutes but had five fouls against Chauncey Billups. Against the Orlando Magic, Ridnour turns into a decent option, and as long as he's starting he's worth owning. … The Mavericks have been using Brandon Bass to limit DeSagana Diop's minutes. Bass has been playing quite well and with Dampier close to a return, it seems doubtful Diop capitalizes on his quick start to sustain fantasy value now. … Phil Jackson likes Ronny Turiaf in the lineup, Andrew Bynum has been great despite coming off the bench, Kwame Brown will get decent playing time if healthy simply because of his defense, and even Chris Mihm is stealing some playing time, so Luke Walton's demotion to the bench in favor of Lamar Odom is quite damaging. Don't count on Walton gaining any value until an injury strikes. … Grant Hill isn't shooting well (36.4 percent from the field through seven games), but if Raja Bell misses another game Tuesday, Hill is guaranteed a lot of minutes against one of the worst defenses in the NBA.
