Brandt Snedeker and Brooks Koepka didn't play this morning, but never trailed as partners this afternoon, steamrolling the European duo of Danny Willett and Martin Kaymer for what is very likely going to be the only U.S. point of the afternoon.

Brandt Snedeker after win: "My job was to make putts and let Brooks Koepka do what he does." They both did what they do.

Jack Nicklaus gave talk to U.S. team Thursday night. .. He apparently wasn't available to do same prior to afternoon matches. #RyderCup

It took exactly 10 hours and 1 minute from this morning's start, but Europe finally has its first point on the board, as Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson beat Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed, making nine birdies in a 5 and 4 win.

How the at-large picks are faring as it stands now at the Ryder Cup. Europe's three: Kaymer, Pieters, Westwood combined to play in 5 matches. .. and will win 1 point. U.S. four: Fowler, Holmes, Kuchar, Moore combined to play 5 matches ... and will win 2 points.

Every other year for three days, like clockwork, Sergio Garcia inexplicably looks like the world's best putter. His flatstick has been hit again this afternoon, as he and countryman Rafa Cabrera-Bello are 4-up on J.B. Holmes and Ryan Moore with six holes to play.

Nine holes down and Martin Kaymer has registered a score on exactly zero holes. Danny Willett's back must be hurting from carrying him.

Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed played the front-nine in 4-under -- and are 2-down. They're getting Stenson'd.

It's not necessarily a day off of work for both Chris Wood and Matthew Fitzpatrick just because they didn't play in the matches today. Both are out working on their games hoping to be brought off the bench Saturday..

Some terrific golf being played in the opening fourballs match this afternoon. The American team of Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed have posted five birdies in their first eight holes -- and find themselves 2-down against Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson, the latter of whom nearly aced the eight hole minutes ago.

Who seemed the most nervous to start the afternoon matches? Rafa Cabrera-Bello. When I shook his hand it slipped my grip because it was so cold and sweaty. He seems to be pretty comfortable now!!

Bob Harig @BobHarig

Stenson just nearly aced the 8th hole. Inches away. Reed and Spieth will have long birdie putts to keep from going 2-down.

For all his struggles in Ryder Cups, Phil Mickelson on Friday tied Lee Trevino for the fourth-most points won in U.S. history with 20. Billy Casper holds the record with 23 1/2, followed by Arnold Palmer with 23 and Lanny Wadkins with 21 1/2. Mickelson's overall record is now 17-19-6.

Europe now leads three of the four afternoon fourballs matches at the Ryder Cup, just in case you were wondering where all that morning momentum has gone.
