Richard Bland is 44 years old. He turned pro in 1996. He's played 414 previous events without a win. He's never made the cut in a major championship. And with two birdies already today, he's tied for the Open Championship lead along side Jordan Spieth. What a story.

While Henrik Stenson was competing in Round 1 of The Open Championship on Thursday, his local rental house was broken into. Burglars took personal valuable items, including jewelry, and his on-course clothing for the week (which he quickly had replaced). "I am going to try not to let this spoil the week in any way," said Stenson, who had an afternoon tee time on Friday. "I am extremely grateful that my family were not in the house at the time."

Henrik Stenson's local rental house was broken into while he played yesterday. Personal valuable items and his clothing for the week taken.

When the bad weather does hit, the marshall's at The Open Championship will be easily visible AND stylish!! Like a Boss... that joke was too easy.

This is the stuff of caddie nightmares! It's blowing almost 25mph at Royal Birkdale. Look how the flag on the green is pointed in the opposite direction as the flags above the grandstands. What does a caddie tell his player?!?

ESPN Stats and Information

Phil Mickelson made 12 bogeys or worse this week in 36 holes. He made four bogeys total in 72 holes at Troon in 2016.

How long has it been since Ian Poulter made a cut at The Open? His last weekend appearance was in 2013 at Muirfield, which was also Phil Mickelson's last win.

The locals had forecasted this morning that 3pm BST would be the moment the weather would get worse. Jordan Spieth marks that hour with a birdie at the first. Impressive, and potentially crucial.

Gonna be tough for Rory F------ McIlroy to win this thing if Jordan F------ Spieth keeps playing like this.

On this date in 2004, Manny Ramirez cut off Johnny Damon's throw in the outfield ... for some reason. es.pn/2tNad5Z

One day after a roller-coaster opening-round 71, Rory McIlroy posted a 2-under 68 that will have him under par entering the weekend. With the worst of the weather conditions expected this afternoon, there's an excellent chance that he'll find himself in one of the final few groups off the tee for Saturday's third round.

Jason Sobel @JasonSobelESPN

Rory McIlroy shoots 68. Second-best score today and avoided the potentially worse weather this afternoon. Will be a factor this weekend.

Steven Saunders ESPN UK

Rory McIlroy taps in for a 68, just the fourth round of the day in the 60s. Two of them came in the same group, Zach Johnson (66) and Sergio Garcia (69). There won't be many more. Cut now stands at +4.

Steven Saunders ESPN UK

With the weather playing havoc with scoring, here's some scoreboard bingo. There's everything from a 2 to an 8 in here. And that's just a snapshot of seven groups.
