Reading so many Arnold Palmer tributes this morning. One thought comes to mind: We lost the most universally revered figure in the world.

Arnold Palmer not only changed golf, he changed sports business. The sports marketing industry began when Mark McMormick signed Arnie to IMG

Just saw Johnny Miller in the Atlanta airport, one of the many with links to Arnold Palmer. Miller's 1973 US Open win at Oakmont came partly at Palmer's expense. Miller shot the first 63 in a major to come from well back. It was the last great chance Arnie had to win a major.

An Arnold Palmer memory among many: after Tiger Woods won the 2013 Arnold Palmer Invitational, he was in the Bay Hill locker room celebrating with caddie Joe LaCava. Palmer was on the other side of the room, bellowing with glee with an off-color mocking of Woods' decision to lay up on the 18th hole. It didn't matter to Arnie that it was the smart play, he was letting Woods have it. And Tiger loved it. A classic photo from that day.
