Rory McIlroy taps in for a 68, just the fourth round of the day in the 60s. Two of them came in the same group, Zach Johnson (66) and Sergio Garcia (69). There won't be many more. Cut now stands at +4.

With the weather playing havoc with scoring, here's some scoreboard bingo. There's everything from a 2 to an 8 in here. And that's just a snapshot of seven groups.

Matt Kuchar on his plans for the rest of today: "I get to kick back this afternoon and watch these guys try to survive."

Jason Sobel @JasonSobelESPN

Phil Mickelson just carded a birdie. Which would've been helpful if he hadn't bogeyed six of the seven holes before that.

Bob Harig @BobHarig

Another nice par save for Rory at the 12th. Those pars will loom large as the weather gets worse. Now up to T8. #TheOpen

FIND THE ONE! Sean O'Hair makes the first ace in competition at this year's Open Championship at the 168 yard par three 12th hole!

Bob Harig @BobHarig

Rory with 31 on the opening 9 -- 8 shots better than Thursday. He's moved to T9, 3 back, with weather expected to get worse. #TheOpen

In eight career Open starts, Bubba Watson has never finished in the top-20. He's currently 4-under and just one stroke off the lead.

Here's something cool the R&A is doing! This is what the course set up is for Friday's second round. What's cool is the numbers listed under the "tee position" column. For players and caddies, those numbers are what will be used to determine how far it is to bunkers from the tees. Avoiding the bunkers is extremely important at The Open, especially in bad weather. Having exact distances is a key to success.

First notification of a projected cut has it at +2. On the course and on that line or below at the moment: D.Johnson, R. Fowler, P. Mickelson, P. Reed, S. Garcia, A. Scott. In their favour is that the line will likely move backwards at least a couple of shots this afternoon.

Rory McIlroy played his first six holes of The Open in 5-over, trailing the leaders by 10 strokes at that point. Buoyed by a pep talk from caddie J.P. Fitzgerald, he played his next 18 holes in 7-under, including a start of 3-under through six holes today that has him in a share of 10th place, just three shots off the lead.

Steven Saunders ESPN UK

Phil Mickelson finally got his first birdie of the championship on the first hole but has just given that back in spades on the third. A triple bogey leaves him +5 and looking forlorn.

Steven Saunders ESPN UK

The Rory McIlroy of yesterday's back nine has turned up to play the front nine today. A birdie-par-birdie start moves him in to red figures -- he was +5 after six holes on Thursday.

Jason Sobel @JasonSobelESPN

Austin Connelly, the much-hyped 20-year-old Canadian-Texan, is once again proving he can hang with the big boys.

Steven Saunders ESPN UK

Rickie Fowler is on the move. After his tee shot at the par-3 7th comes up a little short at the front right, he putts it up, over and down the slope and into the hole for a second straight birdie. He's 1-under now and may also be on the favourable side of the draw.
