Hideki Matsuyama wins the 2016 Hero World Challenge by two strokes over Henrik Stenson. Matsuyama said his main goal for 2017 "is to win a major and number two is to win on the PGA Tour and keep grinding."

1. Hideki Matsuyama, eagles/birdies: 24 15. Tiger Woods, eagles/birdies: 24 Golf is really weird. (Related: Double-bogeys are really bad.)

Jason Sobel @JasonSobelESPN

Hideki Matsuyama hangs on to win the Hero World Challenge, his fourth worldwide title in his last five starts. Dude is on a serious heater.

With his 15th-place finish at the Hero World Challenge, Tiger Woods is projected to move inside the top 650 in the Official World Golf Ranking. Coming into the week, Woods was ranked 898th. Had he finished last in the field that started with 18 players, he would have moved up roughly 150 places instead of the approximately 250 spots he jumped.

Tiger Woods' caddie Joe LaCava: "My goal was to get him through five rounds on his feet. He feels great now, which is a huge positive."

Bob Harig ESPN Senior Writer

Tiger Woods won't be happy with his final round at the Hero World Challenge (76) but he can't be upset when looking at the big picture in his return to competitive golf after 15 months. There was far more good than bad, with surprising power and length with all of his clubs. Woods made 24 birdies for the week out of 72 holes, but played the par-5s in just 4 under par. He also made 6 double bogeys for the week including 3 Sunday. There are plenty of positives, and yet plenty of room for improvement, too.

Jason Sobel @JasonSobelESPN

That's a final-round 76 for Tiger Woods. Felt like the tank reached empty by Sunday afternoon. All in all, good first step in his return.
