Rickie Fowler's improvement from 84 to 65 highlighted the difference in course set up from Saturday to Sunday's final round at Shinnecock. The 19-shot differential was the largest in tournament history from third to fourth round. Four other players, including Phil Mickelson, improved by at least 10 shots. Tommy Fleetwood matched a U.S. Open record with a 63. And the field scoring averaged improved more than 3 strokes from 75.327 to 72.179.

The back-to-back winner, Brooks Koepka, with another back-to-back winner, Curtis Strange.

Brooks Koepka's U.S. Open victory gives the U.S. five straight majors dating to his win at last year's U.S. Open. It includes Jordan Spieth at The Open, Justin Thomas at the PGA and Patrick Reed at the Masters. The last time U.S. players won five straight was 1997-98: Justin Leonard (Open), Davis Love III (PGA), Mark O'Meara (Masters), Lee Janzen (U.S. Open), O'Meara (Open).

Nick Pietruszkiewicz

Brooks Koepka is the first back-to-back U.S. Open champion since Curtis Strange pulled the same double in 1988 and 1989. This win is completely different than the birdie-fest last year at Erin Hills.

Bob Harig @BobHarig

Koepka finishes at 281, +1. Last over-par winner was Justin Rose in 2013 at Merion at +1. Webb Simpson also +1 in 2012 at Olympic Club

Michael Collins ESPN Senior Writer

Patrick Reed comes up a little short in his quest for winning the first two legs of golf's grand slam. A bogey on the last hole puts Reed in the clubhouse at +4 total (-2 for the day).

Did the USGA make big changes to the course? Saturday 5 players shot Even or better. 23 players are at Even or better on championship Sunday.
