Couch nearly cracks top 100 in world rankings

American Chris Couch soared 265 places to 103rd in the world rankings issued on Monday after his surprise win at the Zurich Classic of New Oreleans.

The 32-year-old Couch chalked up his first PGA Tour victory on Sunday, beating Charles Howell III and Fred Funk by one shot after chipping in from 50 feet at the last hole.

Swede Niclas Fasth jumped 11 positions to 46th in the world after defeating Briton John Bickerton in a playoff to win the Spanish Open.

Tiger Woods continues to lead the way at the top of the rankings followed by fellow American Phil Mickelson and Retief Goosen of South Africa.
