The PGA Tour announced its 2013-14 schedule Monday, a virtual repeat of this year's version except for the first-time wrap-around slate that sees the new season begin in a month.
The tour season stars at the Frys.com Open (Oct. 10-13) and continues with five more events -- including three overseas -- before a six-week break and the resumption of the schedule with two January events in Hawaii.
There are a few differences in the 45-event schedule:
• The Shell Houston Open returns to its normal spot a week before the Masters (this year it was played two weeks prior) and is switching positions with the Valero Texas Open.
• Unlike this year, the FedEx Cup playoffs will be contested over four consecutive weeks, with no break. That is in deference to the Ryder Cup, which will be played in Scotland. The PGA of America requested from the PGA Tour a week break prior to the biennial competition, meaning the Tour Championship in Atlanta will be contested Sept. 11-14, 2014. The Ryder Cup is two weeks later.
• Missing from the schedule is the Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi, which was played in July this year opposite the Open Championship. In 2014, it moves to the fall and is expected to be the leadoff event to the 2014-15 season.
In addition to the Masters at Augusta National (April 10-13), the major championships are as follows: the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 (June 12-15) in North Carolina; the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool (July 17-20) in Hoylake, England; and the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club (Aug. 7-10) in Louisville, Ky.
