INSIDE THE STANFORD CARDINAL'S CLASS
Goodbye Chiney Ogwumike. Hello fresh new stars. With signatures from three of the top 30 prospects in the nation who count eight Gatorade state player of the year awards among them, Tara VanDerveer has Stanford sitting pretty.
The headliner of the Cardinal's clutch is Taylor Rooks, the No. 18 prospect in the nation. The 6-foot wing out of New Jersey averaged 23.6 points and 10.7 rebounds as a senior at Gill St. Bernard's (Gladstone) and won her second straight New Jersey Gatorade player of the year award.
Brittany McPhee, a 5-11 wing and the No. 25 prospect in the class, has won three straight Gatorade state player of the year awards in Washington. She averaged 27.1 points and 12.8 rebounds as a senior at Mount Rainier (Des Moines, Wash.).
Kaylee Johnson, a 6-3 forward and the No. 30 prospect in the class from Wyoming, also has won three straight Gatorade state awards. She averaged more than 16 points and 14 rebounds as a senior at Natrona County (Casper, Wyo.)
Did we mention that all three have GPAs of 4.0 or better?
