ESPN Player Evaluations

Nike Nationals-July 2013: Athletic floor-leader handles and directs, half-court manager; combo-game manufactures and creates, finishes in traffic vs. contact; mentally tough, competitive game manager with resilience, appearing to have finesse game but continues to battle; winner. (Olson)

EBA Super 64 East-June 2012: Explosive with the ball and equally effective at the point or off the ball. She showed a lot of maturity and basketball I.Q. in a showcase setting that doesn't usually get much of that. She is very efficient on the drive making decisive moves and usually no more than a single counter move and then she gets right to the rim before the help can rotate. She is looking stronger physically which makes her a more than capable defender at both guard spots. M.J. is certainly leading the West Virginia resurgence on the grassroots circuit. (Hansen)

Midwest Showdown-May 2012: Each year, there are players who show and prove they belong amongst the nation's elite. Johnson has done just that over the past 12 months, making her mark at several key events along the way. The 5-7 point guard made shot after shot at the Midwest Showdown, all while applying pressure to the opposition with her ballhandling and defensive awareness. Her consistent play has drawn interest from major schools as far away as Stanford and has her ranked No. 21 in the latest ESPN HoopGurlz Terrific 25. (Clay)

EBA Super 64-June 11: Lots of speed and acceleration are in place. Can create some but will need to add depth to her skill set to keep defenders honest down the road. Her pull up appears sharp and provided an answer when helpside defenders came her way. Still need to add consistency to her perimeter looks as well as refine her shot selection. Got out in transition and has the ability to run the floor with anyone. Active defender with the tools to make an impact on that end of the floor. (Lewis)

USAB U16 Trials-May 11: Lots of tools and potential are very evident. She has the ability to create looks off the dribble as well as spot up and knock down the long ball. Isn't hesitant to give it up to a teammate with a better look and more than willing to take it into the bigs off the drive. Could use more consistency to her effort at the defensive end. (Lewis)

Deep South Classic-April 11: Uses both hands well on handles. Good decision maker through traffic and can create shot off of screen or blow by. Will mix it up by diving for ball. Good stroke from outside and can make the extra pass for a wide open look. Needs to learn how to attack zones. (Gray)

Combo guard who has shown the ability to thrive as both a playmaker and a scorer. Very good perimeter shooter who can also attack off of the bounce. Has to get stronger and continue to develop physically. (Moore)
