Super Sunday-Jan. 09: Stephanie Holzer decided to challenge herself in a new way, playing one-handed. The 6-4 Vanderbilt signee severely sprained her left hand recently, and, though she struggled catching some passes lacking touch, she still scored 23 points. She may be the smartest post player in the country. She just knows how to play the position with and without the ball as well as on defensive end.
TOC Dec. 08: Holzer continues to exhibit the text book post play that make her one of the elite interior players in the 2009 class. In addition to already established skills she shows the maturity and basketball intelligence that make her an ideal fit in the Vanderbilt program. She plays with confidence and when things don't go her way she doesn't let the last play affect the next. She's showing smart play in posting to the next pass and hass gotten even more aggressive on the offensive boards. Her size and wigspan allow her to take up a lot of room defensively in both man and zone.
Summer 08:Holzer is a solid, accomplished post player who works hard and is willing to get on the floor - which is not something a lot of 6-3 players will do. She's persistent inside and passes well, but had some trouble getting her shot off against some of the more athletic posts. The more comfortable she gets with a mid-range jumper, the higher her ceiling will be.
