ESPN Player Evaluations

Derby Classic-July 09: Lynette Holmes is the definition of a high-motor player. The 6-1 wing/forward stays active on each and every possession. With the ball she's got a quick first step and her length complements that quickness in getting by the defense. She is fearless getting into the lane and makes quite a few trips to the free throw line. Where she could improve is her strength and ability to finish after the foul. She is pretty lean right now but she is a good rebound nevertheless because she gets after it. Her perimeter skills are going to have to continue to improve, especially her range.

USJN Cincy-July 09: If you're going to watch the Illinois X-citement you're going to feel like you're watching a tennis match. To say they get up and down the floor might be an understatement and one of the reasons why is 6-1 wing Lynette Holmes. The ultra-athletic standout from Bogan High School has the combination of size, speed and skills to make her well suited for anyone's transition game at the next level. Her first step gives her the ability to slash into the paint on a consistent basis and her body control allows her to get good looks and take multiple trips to the line. She'll need to become more consistent with her perimeter shooting to keep defenders closing out on her. Staying active without the ball is critical to her overall game. Her long, lean build combined with her quickness makes her a strong defender at any guard or wing spot.

Fall 08: Holmes has a great backstory (lost her New Orleans home in Katrina), but she's got even more game. Now living in Chicago and going to Bogan High School, the 5-11 wing showed the assembled coaches her smooth assortment of moves and outstanding athleticism. At this point in her career, she gets most of her points inside (she can finish with either hand), though she will step out for a 12-footer on occasion. At the next level, her perimeter game at both ends of the floor will be more important, but in high school, she can pretty much do whatever she wants whenever she wants. And along the same line, she'll be able to go to college wherever she wants to as well - she is that good.

Winter 08: Great face up player offensively with very quick change of direction. Uses jab and shot fake well for a forward player. Shows nice pivots with her back to the basket and draws fouls. Needs to get stronger to finish with the contact. Very athletic '4' player. Might be a tweener so developing wing skills is important.
