Nike Nationals-July 09: If you don't remember Hall of Fame player George %u201Cthe Iceman%u201D Gervin, then take a close look at North Tartan's Suriya McGuire. At 5-10, she has that same long, lean build and the deceptive athleticism that personified the former San Antonio great. McGuire's individual skills and ability to create with the ball make her one of the toughest one-on-one matchups in the 2010 class. She constantly attacks in transition or in the half court from the point or shooting guard position. Defining her as a slasher may be an understatement. She has the ability to get by her own defender with an uncanny knack for avoiding help-side defenders, while still creating good looks. Her jumper gets results off the dribble, but could stand to become more reliable on the spot up. As a defender, her length and quickness gives her the tools to control the most opposing ballhandlers and get a hand on any careless passes.

Summer 08 I: Suriya McGuirelost her back court mate, Shakila Boler, due to a knee injury which left nearly all the ballhanding duties to the Minneapolis native. McGuire is incredibly quick both laterally and going at the defender. She has one of the quickest first steps and she is incredibly shifty with the ball as well. Keeping pressure on her is almost impossible because she can go by most defenders. She showcased her breakdown ability in the half court as well as the ability to push the ball. As the primary point guard she needs to learn to use those tools to set her teammates up more consistently as she didn't create as many shots for others as she did for herself. Defensively she has the ability to harass anyone. She has to get a little stronger and really want to be a lockdown defender at the college level.

Summer 08 I: Quickness and length are ample in this athletic combo guard. She has nice, shifty handle and creates off the dribble. Her potential defensively is very high with her length, and quick hands. She sometimes chases her man defensively so gaining a better understanding of positioning and help-side will be needed.
