ESPN Player Evaluations

Nike Nationals-July 09: A lot was expected of Essence Purple guard Alexis Burke due to her ranking in the ESPN HoopGurlz Hundred. She didn't disappoint, despite playing out of position at the forward slot on a guard-loaded team. At 5-foot-11, she is definitely undersized for the 4, but her true position is on the perimeter as either a 2 or 3. Her strong build allowed her to get it done against bigger forwards. She is relentless on the glass and showed the competitiveness that great players have in them to get after it on each possession. She showed a nice, smooth release on her shot that is high and quick. Her team seemed to play a nail-biter each and every game in the tournament and her swagger definitely helped keep her team in those games to the end.

Fall 08: In an era when coaches complain about the lack of shooting in this game, we offer Alexis Burke, a 5-11 wing out of Bainbridge, Ga. She's got a shot as sweet as honey, with a nice, high release point and strong legs to make any range seem well within the possibilities. Here, she also showed the ability to play off her shot-making abilities, using pump fakes, then putting the ball on the floor for attacks on closer kill zones. She also appears entirely comfortable operating on the boxes. Burke is more likely to create a pull off the bounce, than advance all the way to the cup, and plays at a medium speed which observers can take two ways -- either she needs to show more quickness, or she's always playing under control. We've seen a lot of players use the latter to great success.
